Hirwaun Gas Fired Power plant

At Finan Formworks Ltd, we were honored to contribute to the construction of the 299MW gas power plant in the Hirwaun Industrial Estate.
This project, spearheaded by Hirwaun Power, a subsidiary of DRAX Energy, stands as a testament to our commitment to supporting critical infrastructure development.

I have been especially pleased to have been involved in engineering design for some of the critical RC Structures at the Hirwuan Gas Fired Power Plant. Hirwaun Power, a subsidiary of DRAX Energy, are building a 299MW gas power plant in Hirwaun Industrial Estate, near the village of Rhigos in the Cynon Valley. The power plant, designed to be used during periods off peak electricity demand.

The power station, once operational, could run up to a maximum of 1,500 hours in any given year. It will provide back-up to other sources of electricity, including weather-dependent wind turbines and solar farms. My role and Finan Formworks were very pleased to be appointed to support our client and Contractor on the Project P J Hegarty, to delivery engineering temporary works solutions, formwork
systems on hire and supervision support.

Working as a team with our client we were working to tight deadlines with a common goal to deliver a high quality product, on time and 100 % safely. Although a very challenging project for the complete team, I can say it has been a hugely rewarding experience to be part of such a dynamic team. Also as a company we are so pleased that we can start to play our part in building & delivering critical infrastructure that supports the net zero goals that will make a difference to our global sustainability.
